San Juan Island Ferry Schedule
Washington State Ferries serves four major islands in the San Juan Islands. From east to west, they are Lopez Island, Shaw Island, Orcas Island, and San Juan Island. The San Juan Island ferry schedule changes 4 times per year. One can travel from Anacortes to the San Juan Island, as well as among them, or as locals say “inter island”. Loading by auto or foot is always on a first-come, first served basis. If you are a ‘walk – on passenger’ you will not have any difficulty getting aboard. Show up about 1/2 hour prior to the ferry departure in Anacortes to purchase your walk – on ticket. It will be between $12 – $14 and is ROUND TRIP. If you are bringing your car to the San Juan Islands, be in line about 1 hour prior to the ferry schedule departure. In June, July and August arrive at least 1.5 hours or more ahead of time. You might consider leaving you car and renting a car on island. Or rent a bike or a moped. In the summer, there is a bus that runs from Roche Harbor to Friday Harbor and back about every hour. Car and passenger prices for the ferry run about $50 – $60 and is ROUND TRIP. In anticipation of the ferry line you might like to plan ahead by bringing a good book, snacks, or something to pass the time. Or . . . make a new friend in line. Islanders are a bit gabby so don’t be shy.
